Rat, Mice & Rodent

Solution Oriented Pest Management

satisfied customers

We have had ant issues in the house for years, tried two different companies with little to no success getting rid of them. Upon a referral we called Dominion Pest Control and from the initial visit we have had NO ants all! We started to see a few rodents around the yard so our first call was to Dominion, but more importantly, they sent out Malcom to assess the situation. I am confident that Malcom got the job done right the first time. Thanks Malcom.

  • First, your pest professional will perform our 22 point inspection on your Seattle & Bellevue area home. Using our proprietary inspection process, your pest professional will address the three main points in controlling the rodents: Rodent Removal, Entry Point Repair, and Prevention.

  • Now that the stage is set for the best results, we will start getting rid of those rodents! We have found that in most cases the fastest and safest way to remove your rodent infestation is good old fashion trapping.

  • Next, we will repair the entry points that are allowing the rodents access to your structure. We even include one up to an hour of repairs with your Rodent Service at no additional charge! Our pest professionals are experienced at finding very creative and unobtrusive, yet effective ways of keeping rodents out of your home in Seattle and Bellevue.

  • After removing the rodents and sealing the structure, we recommend that you consider a Protection Plan so that we can make sure this never happens again! We protect your property by providing a visit from a professionally licensed exterminator on the frequency tailored to your situation. During these visits, the exterminator will perform an inspection, monitoring, and trapping in void areas. On the outside, we will install a baiting program to keep the outside population from coming in.

Basic Rodent Biology
In our area, we deal with 3 main rodents; Norway Rats, Roof Rats, and Mice. Don't be fooled by their awkward cuteness. These guys are all carriers of bloodborne pathogens and are very dangerous to the integrity of your home. A full-grown rat, as a general rule, can fit into any hole in your home the size of a quarter or bigger. Mice can fit into a hole the size of a dime or bigger. Rodents will soil the insulation in your home, chew on the various utilities (pipes/wiring) and have cause your home to have unhealthy air quality. One thing they tend to do is soil the insulation on the outside of the air ducts. Since the ducts are warm in the winter and cool in the summer, they will nest and travel on top of the ducts going to the bathroom as they go. This is a known cause of allergies and weakened health due to contaminated air. Please visit for more information.

The following is a brief highlight of each kind of rodent including basic biology:

Norway Rat
The body is generally about 8 inches long with a blunt nose and smaller ears and eyes. The Norway Rat is filthier and less choosy about its diet than the Roof Rat. Norway Rats tend to choose the low road. They like ground burrows and crawl spaces. One way to tell which kind you are dealing with is to notice the "bathroom habits". The Norway Rat will use the bathroom absolutely everywhere while the Roof Rat will leave his/her droppings closer to, even inside the nest.

Roof Rat
A little smaller than the Norway Rat and usually smarter, too. The Roof Rat is about 7 inches long and the eyes and ears are a bit bigger. Roof Rats are a bit more choosy about what they eat. They like fruits, vegetables, and nuts, but will eat meat if nothing else is available. Roof Rats tend to like higher places like trees and will walk across wires and plumbing and pipes in your home.

House Mice
Mice are much smaller than rats, at about 2 to 3 inches in length and less than an ounce in weight. Their droppings are significantly smaller than rat droppings. Most people think they have a mouse, but it is more likely in our area to have a rat. Sorry! An adult mouse can fit through a hole the size of a dime. This makes a mouse infestation more difficult to control - especially in older homes that have settled and tend to have other issues with small breeches throughout your Bellevue or Seattle home.

Some things you can do to avoid making your Seattle & Bellevue house attractive to rodents are:

  • Keep plant life away from the roofline and siding of your home.

  • Make sure crawl space and soffit vents are secure.

  • Keep animal food inside at all times.

  • Keep dog droppings picked up.
